After a tasty meal of burritos or quesadillas, it is time for dessert! Mexican desserts such as churros, tres leches cake, flan and buñuelos are time-tested favorites and the perfect finish to a night out. Churros are sticks of fried dough rolled in sugar and cinnamon. The churro is originally from Spain where it is often served with hot chocolate for dipping. Tres leches cake or “three milks” is a sponge cake which has been immersed in evaporated milk, condensed milk and heavy cream. A favorite all over the world, the flan is a simple and sweet custard that is often paired with caramel. Buñuelos are essentially fried donuts that are frequently covered in a syrup of brown sugar, syrup and guava. These tasty donuts are a key part of experiencing a fair or festival in Mexico, where they are served piping hot to hungry fair-goers. The next time you have the chance, give one of these great desserts a try!
